Through this 17 month project, the BC Society of Transition Houses (BCSTH) will build its capacity to advance gender equality and inclusion of Indigenous voices in its governance and strategic plan.
The project will address a need identified by the BCSTH Board of Directors and the Society to incorporate Indigenous member programs in how we make decisions at the Board level, and how we operate and make strategic plans for the Society as a non-Indigenous organization.
The project will involve assessing and improving the BCSTH Board’s governance by consulting BCSTH’s 23+ Indigenous Members, as well as the Board, Staff and broader BCSTH Membership. It will also explore the creation and implementation of an Indigenous Women’s Council as a governance structure to ensure that Indigenous ways of being and knowing are integrated into the work of the Board and the Society.
The project will ensure that women’s equality and the needs of Indigenous members, as well as Indigenous women, children and youth are supported and woven into the fabric of BCSTH’ governance, operations, and strategic priorities.
This project is funded by WAGE CA.
