Keys to Home

The Keys to Home Project provides capacity building through training and organizational support to the member programs of BCSTH who are embarking on expanding their mandates from temporarily sheltering women and children experiencing violence to providing safe long-term housing options for vulnerable populations in BC. Currently, BCSTH member programs are transforming their work to include housing solutions for women ranging from building housing partnerships with non-profit housing providers, co-ops, and private landlords; to the construction of new rental and second stage housing units; to taking over the operation of existing long-term housing. BCSTH is looking forward to continued collaboration with the following organizations on this project: BC Non Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA), Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC), BC Housing, Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA), Vancity Community Foundation (VCF), and Women’s Shelters Canada (WSC).

Project Details

Keys to Home is a two-year project funded by the Community Housing Transformation Fund through a Sectoral Impact Grant. The project conducted a Gaps Analysis and developed a toolkit regarding developing long-term housing that is safe and accessible for women and their families who have experienced violence and at risk of violence. The project launched an online BCSTH course, “Foundations in Women-Centred Housing” regarding the development of long-term housing, which you can find here in French and here in English.
