Building Supports: Housing Access for Immigrant and Refugee Women (IRW) Leaving Violence is a collaborative, three-year, community-based project, co-led by the BC NonProfit Housing Association, the BC Society of Transition Houses, and the FREDA Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children (School of Criminology, Simon Fraser University).
This project is focused on understanding the barriers to accessing secure and affordable house for IRW leaving violent relationships. It will result in a promising practices guide, policy recommendations, and a public awareness campaign to identify practices and policies that can facilitate the removal of barriers to safe, secure, and affordable housing.
This project is funded by the Vancouver Foundation and a Civil Forfeiture Grant distributed by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. It launched in 2014 and will run to 2017.
