The Cedar Blankets and Beyond: Enhancing Wraparound Supports for Indigenous Women and Children Across BC project is a 15-month project to scale the existing Cedar Blankets Project to 4 new BC regions and communities to establish wraparound supports in non- Indigenous Transition Houses and Safe Homes to foster safety and healing for Indigenous survivors provincewide.
The existing Cedar Blankets sites, Indigenous Women’s Circles/Councils, Elder and Youth representatives will act as mentors and champions and the project will establish a provincewide community of practice to share knowledge. Cedar Blankets and Beyond will decolonize transition house and safe home practices and build connections with Indigenous communities through local Indigenous Women’s Circles/Councils to ensure Indigenous self-determination and engagement with BC’s 200 plus First Nations. Cedar Blankets and Beyond provides a pathway to ensure that non-Indigenous organizations throughout BC center Indigenous women, children and youth and their needs and realities in their support services.
Working from a woman centered service delivery model this project will collaborate with the project site organizations to create a unique individualized implementation plan aimed at creating cultural safety and increasing access to Indigenous women and their families. This project will provide training to staff and management of project sites in the areas of cultural humility and decolonization, allyship, trauma-informed practices, community engagement, and practical skills building.
